Community Questions & Answers

Clear answers on the issues that matter most to Lake of the Pines members
Should Board meetings be recorded or available on Zoom?

Yes. Board meetings should be accessible to all members, including through recordings and Zoom. Every member deserves equal access to information, not just those who can attend in person. When everyone has access to the same information, it reduces misunderstandings, builds trust, and ensures the community is working from a common set of facts. A complete and accurate record also helps prevent discussions from being taken out of context, which protects both members and the Association. Transparency supports clarity, accountability, and confidence in decision-making.

Should major decisions, like Optimum,  involve a membership vote?

Yes. Significant decisions that impact the entire community -especially financially and/or long-term should include meaningful member input. When members have the opportunity to understand and weigh in on major decisions, it helps ensure that expectations are aligned and that the community is moving forward together. Clear communication and engagement early in the process can reduce misunderstandings and prevent unnecessary frustration or conflict among members. In some cases, seeking broader input-or providing a mechanism for member feedback or voting-can strengthen trust and support more effective long-term decision-making.

What is your approach to reserves and long-term planning?

Reserve funds are critical to the long-term health of our community. Decisions regarding reserves should be transparent, well-documented, and clearly communicated to members so everyone understands both the risks and the plan.

How will you work with other Board members?

Effective governance requires collaboration, respect, and open discussion. I will: Listen to different viewpoints Ask questions when something is unclear Focus on solutions Keep discussions professional and respectful Differences of opinion are normal-but they should always remain constructive and focused on what’s best for the community.

How would you help improve the tone of the community?

A healthy community starts with leadership setting the example. Board members play an important role in shaping how discussions take place - through their communication, their actions, and how they respond to differing viewpoints. A strong community also requires mutual respect. Expectations should not be one-sided, both members and the Association benefit when communication is respectful and grounded in the rules that apply to everyone. I believe improving the tone starts with: Respectful communication Listening to members Focusing on solutions instead of conflict Keeping discussions professional, even when there are disagreements Disagreements are a normal part of any community. What matters is how they are handled.

How should differences of opinion be handled in the community?

It should not be about taking sides or creating an “us vs. them” environment. Members should be able to ask questions, raise concerns, and share different viewpoints without fear of consequences. Constructive input and respectful disagreement are part of a healthy community, and they should be encouraged, not discouraged. My goal is to help move conversations in a more constructive direction, where members feel heard, informed, and treated with respect. Strong communities are built on respect, transparency, and trust, and leadership plays a key role in setting that standard.

How should rules and enforcement be handled?

Rules should be applied fairly, consistently, and with respect for due process. Governance should never feel selective or uneven. Every member deserves clear expectations and fair treatment.

How do you respond to concerns about the cost of the lawsuit?

I understand why members are concerned about costs-those concerns are valid. No one wants to see Association resources spent on legal matters, and I believe strongly in responsible financial management. At the same time, situations that involve questions about process, fairness, or member rights sometimes require formal resolution when they cannot be addressed through normal channels. These types of issues are not about conflict-they are about ensuring that decisions and actions are handled properly and consistently. It’s also important to recognize that how matters are handled can influence the overall cost. Addressing concerns early and transparently can help avoid escalation. My focus moving forward is on strengthening communication, improving processes, and reducing the likelihood of situations that lead to unnecessary expense. Responsible governance includes both fiscal responsibility and accountability-they go hand in hand.

How do you respond to statements about a large payout or “money grab”?

There has been a lot of discussion about this issue, and I understand why it has raised concern. Some of the information presented publicly has not fully reflected the actual scope of the case. Like most legal matters, the filings include standard legal language, including requests that are part of the process. Those should not be confused with the purpose of the case. This matter relates to specific incidents and questions about process and how situations were handled. It is not about pursuing a large payout - it is about accountability and ensuring that proper procedures are followed. Legal matters are resolved through the court process, where facts and evidence-not summaries or characterizations-determine the outcome. My focus moving forward is on strengthening governance, improving communication, and helping ensure that issues are addressed early so they do not escalate.

Will the lawsuit continue if you are elected?

Legal matters follow their own process and are handled through the appropriate channels. My role as a Board member would be to focus on governance, decision-making, and what is best for the community moving forward. Those are separate responsibilities. If elected, I would follow established governance practices, including recusing myself from any Board discussions or decisions where there is a potential conflict related to the legal matter. My priority would be improving communication, strengthening processes, and helping ensure that concerns are addressed early-so situations like this are less likely to occur in the future. The goal should always be to reduce conflict, not prolong it.
